Hourly Pay Range
Hourly Pay Range: $61.740 - $70.170 - $90.160 (Reflects the range defined by the collective bargaining agreement between Sharp HealthCare and Sharp Professional Nurses Network, United Nurses Associations of California, Union of Health Care Professionals, NUHHCE, AFSME, AFL-CIO.)
What You Will Do
Provide direct and indirect nursing services to patients and families.
Essential Functions
- Delegate, assign, and communicate expectations for care delivery processes to each team member, determining what can and cannot be delegated. Follow through to ensure delegated tasks are completed, using appropriate levels of supervision.
- Assess the appropriateness of physician orders and question the physician when necessary.
- Document care per department/entity guidelines, providing a detailed, concise chart that reflects critical thinking.
- Serve as a resource for staff in managing unit‑specific documentation issues.
- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families, anticipating and addressing spiritual, cultural, language, or other barriers to effective communication.
- Analyze social/cultural variables and adapt nursing interventions to meet diverse patient needs.
- Advocate for patients by removing obstacles, identifying and supporting appropriate needs and wants, and interpreting for patients and physicians.
- Assist coworkers in improving performance through positive feedback, support, and incidental teaching.
- Provide unit specific information to learners (students, floats, travelers, registry personnel) and document appropriately.
- Identify and implement improvements in work processes and systems, offering and receiving constructive feedback in a non‑judgmental, confidential manner.
- Deliver age‑appropriate patient education that facilitates recovery, self‑care, end‑of‑life care, health maintenance, and wellness.
- Coordinate transfer, discharge planning, and teaching in collaboration with the care team.
- Collaborate with team members to develop, identify, and revise patient education materials.
- Demonstrate flexibility in teaching based on assessment of learner needs and apply adult learning principles.
- Use systematic planning and timely communication with multidisciplinary team and families to coordinate care.
- Manage multiple patient needs and aspects of care efficiently and effectively.
- Communicate proactively with the care team to plan patient care.
- Utilize available resources to problem‑solve and determine the most effective approach to action.
- Apply the nursing process and a critical thinking approach to provide individualized, goal‑directed care consistent with current safety standards.
- Identify actual or potential patient risks, continuously evaluate interventions, and adjust plans as patient and family needs change.
- Determine needs for referrals based on ongoing assessments and evaluations.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and team members to develop comprehensive care plans.
- Prioritize resource demand and collaborate with others to meet individualized patient needs.
- Act as preceptor/teacher, guiding other nurses on applying the nursing process with the unit population.
- Make appropriate referrals based on assessment information.
- Implement safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with complex needs due to multi‑system disease or complications of treatment.
- Demonstrate accountability for achieving patient outcomes and quickly recognize patient diagnoses, even with dissimilar presentations.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of a nursing school.
- At least 2 years of clinical experience.
- Registered Nurse (RN) – California Board of Registered Nursing required.
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals (AHA BLS) required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Independent execution of the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) providing safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with subtle to complex needs.
- Competence in all unit skills and proficiency in some advanced skills; ability to teach select skills to colleagues.
- Coordination of patient care administered by other team members.
- Assumption of relief charge nurse responsibilities and assistance with preceptorship/professional development of new nurses and students.
- Safe use of common equipment and medications, and consultation when unfamiliar with procedures or substances.
- Recognition of inconsistencies in patient care and management of potential complications.
- Consistent organization and prioritization of workload.
