Overview

The licensed Mammography Technologist is responsible for conducting both screening and diagnostic breast imaging procedures, ensuring the production of images that meet ACR quality standards.

Proficiency in interacting with clinicians and coordinating patient care across departments is essential. This technologist must adapt to evolving radiology information systems (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).

Active participation in departmental performance improvement initiatives is required, along with the maintenance of quality control records and engagement in routine equipment testing and maintenance.

Additionally, this role includes the responsibility to mentor and train students and new employees as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct screening and diagnostic breast imaging procedures and ensure image quality meets ACR standards.
  • Interact with clinicians and coordinate patient care across departments.
  • Adapt to evolving RIS and PACS systems.
  • Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives and maintain quality control records; perform routine equipment testing and maintenance.
  • Mentor and train students and new employees as needed.

Qualifications and Scheduling

  • Graduation from a formal radiology technology training program accredited by the AMA.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, including the ability to rotate shifts and cover multiple locations.
  • For Senior level: a minimum of three years of mammography experience.
  • For Principal level: more than five years of mammography experience.

Certifications and Licenses

  • ARRT Mammography Certification
  • CRT Radiology License
  • CRT Mammography License
  • BLS Basic Life Support (CPR) Certification

Experience and Training Requirements

  • Candidates certified after April 27, 1999 must provide proof of at least 40 hours of mammography-specific training.
  • Must have performed at least 200 mammography exams within the past 24 months (rolling 24-month calendar).
  • Must possess certificates for a minimum of 15 CEUs in Mammography over the last 36-month period (rolling 36-month calendar).
  • Proof of completion of MQSA-approved training of 8 hours in Digital and 3D Tomosynthesis is mandatory.
