As our Peer Counselor Program Coordinator, you will plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate breastfeeding peer counselor programs for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), designed to promote maternal and infant nutrition literacy, breastfeeding education and support, and individual and community wellness, working directly with pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in the WIC community. Every day you will collaborate with community partners and external organizations to coordinate breastfeeding promotion events and programs, oversee the work of WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors, and serve as a liaison between WIC participants, healthcare providers, and other support agencies, developing strategies and resources in conjunction with community agencies, high schools, and groups in accordance with grant provisions. To be successful in your role, you will need strong organizational, communication, and computer skills, including database management, along with independent and critical thinking, creativity, and discretion to navigate varied and evolving work situations.

  • Plans, coordinates, implements and evaluates the grant-funded breastfeeding peer counselor program in accordance with grant provisions and requirements.
  • Participates in identification of community health promotion needs and development/implementation of promotion activities related to WIC breastfeeding education and support.
  • Designs/develops health activities/tools for WIC communities/groups to effectively meet breastfeeding promotion needs.
  • Recruits community organizations for partnering on breastfeeding and maternal and infant nutrition education initiatives.
  • Collaborates on program marketing efforts including flier development, PowerPoint presentations, social marketing, etc.
  • Participates in development of grant applications and assists with data input, analysis and quarterly/annual reporting; attends training, meetings and other events hosted by granting agencies.

Required

  • Bachelors Other in Health Education/Promotion or related field and two (2) years' experience in community outreach, program planning and evaluation, upon hire and
  • one years' experience providing breastfeeding support or
  • Five (5) years' experience in health education and/or public health or community outreach, with experience in nutrition, physical activity, food justice, prevention programming, planning and evaluation or related experience and
  • one year experience in providing breastfeeding support and
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, upon hire
