Salary Range: $190,550.00 - $216,300.00 DOE

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Dental Director, the Pediatric Dentist provides dental care for infants, children, and adolescents. The role includes examining, diagnosing, and treating oral diseases, injuries, and disorders; interpreting radiographs and diagnostic tests; prescribing and overseeing treatment plans; performing restorative, surgical, endodontic, prosthodontic, and interceptive orthodontic procedures; counseling patients and families; and implementing preventive services such as fluoride, sealants, and antimicrobial agents. The dentist also develops and enforces procedures governing the pediatric dentistry service, determines necessary equipment and personnel, and coordinates with other dental and pediatric medical services.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Examine infants, children, and adolescents; diagnose oral conditions; prescribe or direct appropriate treatment.
• Record patient-dentist transactions accurately in the dental record.
• Educate patients and families on pediatric oral health and disease prevention.
• Serve on the dental staff and other committees as assigned.
• Provide continuing education, on‑job training, and orientation for community health center staff.
• Offer technical assistance and health education to the community.
• Coordinate and integrate the corporation’s pediatric dental programs with other services.
• Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulations governing dentistry, personnel, workplace safety, public health, and confidentiality.
• Manage children and adolescents with behavioral problems or handicapping conditions.
• Select and manage patients requiring nitrous oxide sedation or a restraining device.
• Participate in the Dental Department’s TQM committee and Peer Review Committee.
• Perform all functions in compliance with the center’s Exposure Control Plan, including Personal Protective Equipment and Universal Precautions.
• Carry out additional tasks directed by the Dental Director to achieve organizational goals.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse patient groups.
• Consistently fulfill quality and production goals set by the Dental Director.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: California Dental License, NPI number, and DEA registrations; completion of an accredited Pediatric Dentistry residency program.
• Current CPR (BLS) certifications; ACLS preferred.
• Experience: Two or more years of community clinic experience preferred.
• Knowledge and Skills: Comprehensive knowledge of primary dental care in outpatient settings; understanding of the principles and practice of modern dentistry as related to public health organizations, community health programs, and current social and economic issues impacting primary health care.

Physical Requirements

• Use standard office equipment; input and retrieve information from a computer; use a keyboard with adequate manual and finger dexterity for repetitive actions.
• Communicate effectively in person or via telephone to a diverse population.
• Give and follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Perform complex mental functions and basic arithmetic; interpret complex laws, regulations, and policies; analyze complex data.
• Maintain adequate vision for close-range detail work; coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Reach forward, up, down, and to the side.
• Sit or stand for minimum periods of one hour at a time, with frequent changes of work area.
• Lift up to twenty (20) pounds.
