Middle School PE Teacher
Position Scope
The Middle School Physical Education Teacher teaches physical education classes for grades 6-8 and plays an active role in the school's athletic program. This position helps students develop physical skills, healthy habits, teamwork, and sportsmanship through both classroom instruction and athletic coaching. Coaching one or more school athletic teams is an expected and required part of the role. The teacher also serves as an advisor. Due to the need for regular supervision in the male locker room, preference may be given to male applicants, consistent with applicable law.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and teach middle school physical education classes focused on fitness, movement skills, and overall wellness
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive physical education curriculum aligned with school standards and middle school developmental needs
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and well-managed learning environment
  • Design lessons that meet students' developmental needs, abilities, and interests
  • Adapt instructional methods and materials to support diverse learners
  • Assess student progress and communicate expectations and feedback clearly
  • Follow school policies related to safety, supervision, and risk management
  • Maintain accurate attendance and grading records
  • Serve as an advisor by leading advisory activities and supporting students' academic and social-emotional growth
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress
  • Participate in field trips, including overnight grade-level trips, as needed
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and other school meetings
  • Attend professional meetings, conferences, and training to remain current in the field
  • Participate fully in the life of the school, including additional duties as assigned
Coaching Responsibilities
  • Coach at least two athletics seasons each year, with flexibility to coach an additional season if needed
  • Plan and lead practices and games in alignment with school and athletic department expectations
  • Support student-athletes' physical, social, and emotional development
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and athletic staff
  • Follow league rules, school policies, and safety guidelines
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Physical Education or a related field required; Master's degree preferred
  • Preference will be given to those that can be a Head Coach of sports in high need.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching and coaching experience with middle school-aged students preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of the developmental needs of middle school students
  • Proven leadership, facilitation, and organizational skills
