What You'll Do
- Perform verbal assessments with patients prior to admission via phone or in-person.
- Review patients' medical histories to identify potential risks or complications.
- Coordinate and perform diagnostic tests to ensure patients are medically fit for procedures.
- Ensure pre-operative care requirements are accomplished through the nursing process.
- Provide patient education as established by the department.
- Document interventions and evaluate results.
- Maintain and promote patient safety by assessing physical and psychological needs.
- Respond to telephone inquiries regarding patient needs.
- Communicate surgical and NPO instructions to patients.
- Alert anesthesia of lab results and special needs prior to surgery.
Requirements
- Education: BSN in Nursing preferred.
- Experience: At least 1 year of experience as a registered nurse, or less than 1 year if transitioned from the Newly Licensed Registered Nurse Residency (NLRN) Program.
- Licenses & Certifications:
- Current RN License in New York.
- BLS certification required.
- ACLS and PALS are unit dependent.
