The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, a warm and welcoming demeanor, and a strong focus on internal customer service.

You will provide essential information and critical feedback directly to restaurant managers, multi-unit supervisors and corporate staff. In this position, you will have the opportunity to work with a variety of systems and processes, including payroll and related tax, account analysis and reconciliation, and journal entries.The Payroll Specialist reports to the Controller and plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations across all 21 restaurants. This role supports payroll processing, account reconciliations, payroll-related journal entries, tax and audit activities, and employee-facing issue resolution with a high degree of accuracy, confidentiality, and service orientation. The Payroll Specialist compiles payroll data to administer and maintain payroll records on an accurate and timely basis by performing critical tasks personally for assigned locations.Payroll Specialist Responsibilities:Uphold the highest of ethical business conduct and compliance by acting lawfully, ethically, honestly, and professionally in the performance of job functions at all timesMaintain compliance with Company policy and procedures as it relates to all job functionsAdhere to strict payroll deadlinesMaintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential.Work closely with restaurant management and HR to ensure accuracy of payroll data: new hires, terminations, transfers, variable compensation inputs, and job information changesInteract with restaurant managers and employees to identify and resolve issues.

Send questions and diligently follow up with managers to resolve outstanding issues, obtain required documents, etc., until all is completeAdvise Controller of problems, issues, and questions that arise and may affect the operation of a restaurant or indicate a recurring or escalating problemProcess child support orders, wage garnishments and tax levies for employeesPrepare and process payroll for employees at assigned locations: review, reconcile to source reportsReview system reports for unusual clock outs and under-reported tipsRespond to agency/employment verification requestsAnswer employee payroll questions, ensuring employees clearly understand payroll subjects and the necessity to comply with all local, state and federal payroll regulationsPrepare assigned sales/use tax returns monthly, making sure they are filed by the due dateAssist with all payroll record keeping and storageSupport other members of the accounting team as requested by the ControllerIdentify and eliminate unnecessary complexity within the payroll processSupport compliance with payroll laws, company policies, and best practices while identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls, and reporting.Payroll Specialist Qualifications:High School Diploma or GED and Minimum 1 year experience in payroll processingFamiliarity with payroll processes beginning to endWorking knowledge of payroll systems, experience with PayCom is preferredComfortable with Excel (functions, data, etc.) and other Microsoft Office applicationsAn analytical mind with good math skillsStrong verbal and written communication skillsExcellent attention to detail with a concern for qualityAbility to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and maturityWillingness to work overtime when workload warrantsPrepared to work hard with a positive attitude, within a small team of 6 accounting and payroll personnelProactive mindset, creative problem-solving skills, always looking for greater efficiencyERP Systems experience preferred – exposure to NetSuite, PayCom, Ctuit, Ottimate or similar systemsAbility to work with minimal direction, dedicated to providing high quality work productAbility to change priorities as needed, to accomplish all tasks despite frequent interruptionsPayroll Specialist Compensation & Benefits:Competitive Hourly PayGroup Medical, Dental, Vision & Life Insurance2 weeks paid vacation each year of employment9 paid holidays3 additional days personal time each calendar year401(k) with company matchSummer Hours program allows flex time from Memorial Day to Labor DayLunch delivered every Thursday (on us) from the two best restaurants in town!Complimentary meal allowance at both Biaggi's AND Ancho and Agave for personal use – up to $2,000 annuallyPayroll Specialist Work Conditions:Environment – Work is performed in-person at our office in Bloomington, IllinoisPhysical Demands – Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, occasional lifting and use of hands/fingersMental Demands – Using standard mental and visual attention continuously, with occasional periods of continuous alertness and concentration.Talk/Hearing – Must be able to receive and send information through oral communication.
