This hands-on role manages the full-cycle, semi-monthly payroll process while supervising a fantastic payroll team. In this position, you will provide strategic direction, establish effective controls, and drive continuous improvements in payroll processes. You will collaborate closely with the People Department, Finance, and external vendors to resolve complex payroll issues, maintain compliance, and enhance overall efficiency and the employee experience.
This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional to make a meaningful impact in a growing, dynamic organization.Key ResponsibilitiesOversee and manage the full-cycle semi-monthly payroll process, including preparation, auditing, and validation of payroll data, timecard imports, wage calculations, and post-payroll reportingLead the processing of supplemental and off-cycle payrolls, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely executionAdminister manual paycheck processing, including bonuses, corrections, and final pay for terminated employees in accordance with applicable lawsEnsure accuracy and integrity of the time and attendance system, including auditing employee hours, approvals, and system data transfersReview, approve, and maintain updates to employee payroll records, including pay changes, retroactive adjustments, tax elections, garnishments, direct deposits, benefits deductions, PTO accruals, and job status changesOversee and participate in year-end and year-begin payroll activities, ensuring accurate reporting and complianceManage processing and reconciliation of Workers' Compensation and FSA invoicesServe as the primary point of contact for employment verifications, including income and reference requestsAct as liaison between the organization and third-party payroll vendors, ensuring service quality and issue resolutionProvide guidance and interpretation to leadership on payroll policies, procedures, and compliance requirementsPrepare, analyze, and distribute regular and ad hoc payroll, financial, and statistical reports for internal stakeholders and external partnersEnsure timely and accurate completion of federal, state, and local reporting requirements, including EEO, BLS, and other regulatory filingsMaintain compliance with federal and multi-state payroll laws and regulations, proactively identifying and mitigating risksCollaborate cross-functionally with other teams to ensure alignment and operational efficiencyQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience5+ years of experience in payroll management, managing high-volume, multi-state, multi-location payrolls (2,000+ employees), including hourly, salaried, exempt, and non-exempt populationsCertified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferredExperience with payroll and timekeeping systems such as UltiPro (UKG) preferredStrong knowledge of multi-state payroll tax regulations and compliance requirementsDemonstrated ability to prioritize, organize, and delegate tasks in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlinesAbility to interpret and apply instructions and information presented in written, verbal, electronic, and procedural formatsStrong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, business correspondence, and procedural documentationAdvanced computer proficiency, including payroll systems, spreadsheets (Excel), databases, and standard business softwareProven problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex situations, identify solutions, and manage variables with limited standardizationBenefitsHealth insurance (includes zero co-pay for mental health counseling)Dental insuranceVision insurance401(k) matchingShort-term and Long-term disabilityEmployee assistance programFlexible spending accountLife insurancePaid time off/SabbaticalProfessional developmentOn-site chiropractic careEmployee Wellness PlatformOn-site gymDiscounted Gym MembershipAdditional InformationAll your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelinesThis is an on-site role in Beaverton, OR
