Payroll Administrator
Location: Nassau County, NY
Employment Type: Full-time, direct hire
Compensation: $35–$40 per hour, based on experience; overtime eligible
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM. Onsite for the first 90 days, with the opportunity to transition to a hybrid schedule of two days onsite and three days remote, subject to review.
About the Company
An established, family-owned retailer serving the tri-state area is seeking a Payroll Administrator to join its corporate payroll team. This newly created position offers the opportunity to join a stable organization with a long-tenured team.
Position Overview
The Payroll Administrator will process payroll for approximately 250–400 employees as part of a seven-person team supporting a workforce of approximately 2,500. The role handles payroll for hourly, salaried, commissioned, and union employees across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
Responsibilities
- Process accurate and timely payroll, including draw-versus-commission payments.
- Process new hires through ADP Onboarding and maintain employee payroll records.
- Manage employee changes, including terminations, pay adjustments, direct deposit information, address changes, and tax withholding updates.
- Administer wage garnishments and withholding orders.
- Prepare manual checks and process direct deposit reversals and deletions.
- Audit payroll reports before submission using ADP Preview.
- Maintain compliance with applicable federal and state payroll and tax requirements.
- Generate and review payroll reports using ADP Workforce Now reporting tools and Microsoft Excel.
- Respond to payroll inquiries from current and former employees with accuracy and professionalism.
- Collaborate with the payroll team to resolve discrepancies and meet processing deadlines.
Qualifications
- At least five years of payroll processing experience.
- Experience processing multi-state payroll.
- ADP Workforce Now experience strongly preferred; experience with other payroll systems will be considered.
- Experience processing draw-versus-commission payroll.
- Union payroll experience is a plus.
- Understanding of payroll tax withholding, garnishments, and employee payroll transactions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-service approach to employee inquiries.
