Key Responsibilities of the Payroll Accountant
As a Payroll Accountant , you will:
- Process weekly, bi-weekly, or semi-monthly payroll accurately and on schedule
- Review payroll data for accuracy, including hours worked, deductions, taxes, and benefits
- Prepare and record payroll journal entries and related accounting transactions
- Reconcile payroll accounts and ensure alignment with the general ledger
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities
- Maintain payroll records and supporting documentation
- Support payroll tax reporting and regulatory compliance requirements
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries
- Assist with benefit reconciliations, garnishments, and other payroll-related deductions
- Prepare payroll reports and analysis for management
- Support audits by providing payroll documentation and reconciliations
- Collaborate with HR and Finance to ensure accurate employee and payroll data
Preferred Qualifications of the Payroll Accountant
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 3+ years of experience as a Payroll Accountant or similar payroll/accounting role
- Strong understanding of payroll regulations, payroll taxes, and accounting principles
- Experience with payroll systems and ERP/accounting software
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities
- Experience with account reconciliations and journal entries
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism
