Summary

Assists Anatomic Pathologists by participating in the examination, dissection and processing of tissue samples and by participating in gross autopsy direction.

Responsibilities

• Gross surgical specimens, performing gross dissection examination and description; prepare and submit tissue for histologic processing and additional analytic procedures. Dictate gross description for inclusion in the Surgical Pathology Report.
• Identify specimens that may require special handling. Perform kidney biopsy triage, tissue bank collection, and gross photography. Appropriately collect tissue for additional testing such as cytometry, cytogenetics, electron microscopy, and other necessary tests.
• Review and summarize medical records for pathologists. Utilize Epic and Cerner to review records and histories when clinical information on requisition is insufficient.
• Perform photography of gross specimens with proper lighting, staging, and labeling.
• Assist residents in gross dissection techniques and descriptions.
• Download and organize digital images in the pathology library.
• Perform other duties as needed.
• Actively participate in training as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• ASCP Certification as a Pathologist's Assistant (PA).
