Job Description

Inova Pathology is seeking AP/CP board‑certified pathologists to provide anatomic and clinical pathology services. Fellowship training in surgical pathology with at least 3 years of surgical and clinical pathology sign‑out experience is preferred. Sign‑out responsibilities, frozen section coverage, and on‑call duties are shared with other members of the pathology faculty.

Pathologist Job Responsibilities

• Possess strong overall diagnostic and communicative skills with the ability to handle surgical pathology sign‑out of an active general surgical pathology service (complex surgical cases, frozen section, cytopathology).
• Participate in centralized slide distribution and evenly share cases across the system; provide clinical services in multiple modalities according to imaging practice standards.
• Have interest and ability to oversee daily clinical laboratory duties, such as blood bank, hematology, and chemistry.
• See cases within specialty because the centralized slide distribution system enables subspecialty sign‑out.
• All system autopsies are performed at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus.
• Call duties include covering both AP (OR/frozen) and CP (mainly blood bank).

Additional Requirements

• Education : Graduate of accredited Medical Doctorate Program (MD/DO).
• Experience : 3 years in active practice of pathology preferred.
• Board Certification : Anatomic and Clinical Pathology—AP/CP.
• Certification : Must obtain advanced certification in applicable modality within one year of training; BLS from the American Heart Association.
• Licensure : Currently hold or ability to obtain an unrestricted VA medical licensure.
• Credentialing : Ability to obtain successful medical staff credentials throughout all Inova pathology locations.
