Job Summary

Organization: Gross Room

Provides patient-focused care through the examination of surgical specimens and timely completion of surgical case reports independently. Responsible for the accurate performance of gross dissection to support microscopic diagnosis and other duties in a manner that complies with all approved protocols. Utilizes critical thinking and problem solving skills to assure accurate and reliable clinical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs examination, gross dissection, and documentation of surgical specimens, under supervision of pathologist.
  • Actively participates in compliance and quality management activities on a daily basis and special projects as indicated.
  • Assists with special tissue processing (tissue in special fixatives, tissue culture media, selection for culture).

  • Training & Development (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrated understanding of basic characteristics and needs of effective delivery; has training in course delivery and observed instructors in preparation and delivery.
  • Mentoring & Coaching (Novice): Constructsively trains and mentors others by providing positive direction and feedback; provides constructive suggestions to improve situations; removes roadblocks without judgment; passes on experiences and job information that can be learned easily.
  • Pathology (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate pathology in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
  • Quality Assurance (Novice): Provides continuous analysis and evaluation of assignment work processes, striving for improvement in tasks and activities; participates in establishing, communicating and monitoring standards for quality and excellence; demonstrates ability to improve current business process, product or service.
