We are seeking a Pathologist Assistant to join a dynamic pathology laboratory team. This role is responsible for assisting pathologists with the gross examination, dissection, documentation, and processing of surgical pathology specimens while ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with laboratory standards. The ideal candidate will have experience in surgical pathology, specimen handling, and histological preparation, with strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform gross examination, description, and dissection of surgical pathology specimens, including complex specimens and biopsies.
- Prepare tissue specimens for histological processing and ensure proper specimen fixation, labeling, accessioning, and documentation.
- Review patient clinical information, including laboratory results, imaging, and medical history, to support specimen evaluation.
- Conduct gross and microscopic photography and assist with radiographic imaging of specimens when required.
- Maintain accurate pathology records and ensure compliance with laboratory quality assurance and regulatory standards.
- Assist in training pathology residents and laboratory staff in gross room techniques and specimen handling.
- Collaborate with pathologists and laboratory personnel to ensure timely, accurate specimen processing and reporting.
- Utilize Epic and other laboratory information systems to document pathology workflows and patient information.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited Pathologists' Assistant program (NAACLS accredited or equivalent).
- 0–3 years of pathology or surgical pathology experience required.
- Experience performing gross examination, specimen dissection, tissue preparation, specimen accessioning, and histological processing.
- Strong knowledge of surgical pathology procedures, laboratory safety, and quality assurance standards.
- Proficiency with pathology documentation systems; Epic experience preferred .
- ASCP Pathologist Assistant (PA) certification and Fellow of the American Association of Pathologists' Assistants (AAPA) preferred.
- Shift is Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (5x8 day shift) (45-minute unpaid lunch), 40 hrs/week
- Location is New York, NY 10032
- Pay Rate for Locals: $84 - $88 Hourly
- Pay Rate for Travelers: $3,950 - $4,000 Weekly
