Life Sciences Patent Attorney (Litigation & Prosecution) – Contract

Location: Fully Remote

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40+ hours/week

Duration: Ongoing Project

Base pay range

$200.00/hr - $240.00/hr

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop case strategies for complex life sciences patent disputes.
  • Draft and review pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery requests/responses.
  • Analyze patents, prior art, technical records, and expert reports to prepare for depositions and trial.
  • Prepare witnesses and collaborate with scientific experts to align testimony with case objectives.
  • Manage document review and production to meet court deadlines.
  • Conduct in-depth legal and technical research to support litigation positions.
  • Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in life sciences technologies.
  • Prepare responses to USPTO office actions, including complex rejections.
  • Conduct freedom‑to‑operate analyses, patentability assessments, and portfolio management.
  • Work with R&D teams to translate complex scientific concepts into strong, defensible claims.
  • Coordinate with foreign counsel for international filings and prosecutions.

Case Management & Reporting

  • Oversee high‑volume reporting to clients, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Manage case timelines, budgets, and deliverables in collaboration with partners.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for clients and team members.
  • Maintain organized matter files, docketing, and document management systems.

Qualifications

  • JD and PhD in a relevant life sciences discipline (molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, etc.).
  • Extensive experience in both patent litigation and prosecution.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple complex matters simultaneously.
  • Strong knowledge of USPTO and federal court procedures.
  • Exceptional legal writing, analytical, and research skills.
  • Ability to excel in a high‑volume, fast‑paced work environment.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative team mindset.
