Mechanical Research And Development EngineerThe Materials Science and Applications (MSA) Division in the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is seeking a motivated candidate to fill the role of Mechanical Research and Development Engineer. You will become part of a team conducting a wide range of R&D projects involving next-generation materials and processes, focused on meeting the needs of critical applications. The MSA Division works with a broad range of materials, including polymers, metals, ceramics, and semiconductor materials.
The team also emphasizes the development of advanced manufacturing methods that enable the transition of these materials to real-world applications.Typical duties of a Research & Development Engineer include:Supporting the development of R&D programs to support critical DOD assetsProviding subject matter expertise in the area of manufacturing and design of microelectronicsDevelop application specific test methods to evaluate the performance of DOD specific microelectronic devices.Define critical performance metrics critical to the performance novel microelectronics in DOD applicationsRequired skills and experience include:Background knowledge of manufacturing processes need to produce and transition critical DOD componentsDetailed knowledge of DOD applications that can benefit from advancer materials and processing technologiesExperience with the design, development and manufacturing of additively manufactured components.Ability to maintain organized and detailed notesGood communication skillsWillingness to work in a fast-paced team environmentPreferred skills/experience include:Experience in managing and executing R&D programsAdvance knowledge of DOD applications that would benefit from new microelectronic technologiesAbility to develop and execute R&D programs.Your working location will be on-site in State College, PA. This position will be mostly located at the 230 Building at Innovation Park (along the campus shuttle via Beaver Ave) with some work being performed at the Millennium Science Complex (MSC) on campus and other ARL buildings surrounding campus.Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
