POSITION SUMMARY:
The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) willcontinue with the core duties and responsibilities as outlined inthe job description as an APP within the Department of Medicine,Section of Hospitalist Medicine. In addition, this candidate willprovide a leadership role within the Section of HospitalistMedicine.
Provide healthcare services consistent with state law and therequirements of the professional licensing or certificationauthority and/or hospital privileges, where applicable. Suchservice may include but are not limited to.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR NURSE PRACTITIONER :
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’sDegree in Nursing.
- National Certification by one of the recognized APRNCertification Centers.
- Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professionalRegistered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse inPennsylvania.
- American Heart Association BLS Certification required withadditional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of thedepartment.
EXPERIENCE:
- Must have at least three years of experience in HospitalistMedicine/or as an APP (at the discretion of the department).

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Manages hospitalist inpatient APP personnel to ensure theavailability of an appropriately credentialed, clinicallycompetent, and well-developed cohesive work force to meet patientcare needs. Navigates credentialing/privileging and facilitydirectives at these sites to assure adherence to localpolicies.
- Functions as a staff role model by promoting cooperative problemsolving, positive progressive discipline, individual and group goalorientation, appropriate delegation of section duties/activitiesand the building of the esprit de corps through individual coachingand counseling, regular attendance at meetings, assisting withannual performance appraisals, and actively participates in theactivities of the section.
- Assists in the development and implementation of ongoingeducational programs for professional and support staff thatinclude new employee orientation, in-service continuing education,procedural training, and new equipment and/or systems trainingwhich enable the staff to perform based on currentpolicy/procedures and state-of-the-art practices.
- Manages the inpatient APPs to ensure adequate APP coverage inthe inpatient settings.
- Maintains effective communication with Medical Staff, patients,staff, and other departments as necessary to assure identificationof problems and provide problem resolution in support of thehospital’s mission of quality care delivery.
- Communicates effectively with APPs, physicians, nurses and otherpersonnel in problem identification and resolution in a timelymanner.
- Works in conjunction with the Medical Director HospitalistMedicine to disseminate necessary information to others by writtenand/or verbal means.
- Works in conjunction with the leadership staff, APPs, andphysicians in identifying areas of opportunity for improvedefficiency and improvement in quality care delivery utilizing thePerformance Improvement process.
- Communicates employee concerns to the appropriate personnel, asapplicable.
- Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates the delivery ofcare in accordance with Standards of Practice and Standards ofCare.
- Collaborates with the Hospitalist Medical Director to ensurethat APP care is consistent with local and regional medical staffprocedures.
- Facilitates the professional development of personnel. Overseesand participates in the orientation, training, and continuingeducation of the staff and other health related personnel.
- Assists the Hospitalist Medical Director with hiring of APPvacancies within the hospitalist section. Assists in evaluation ofnew employees.
- Assures continuous personal and professional growth throughattendance of workshops, seminars, giving in-services, andmonitoring staff orientation plans as applicable.
- Identifies current and anticipates future section anddepartmental educational needs. Collaborates with sectionleadership and staff in the development of departmental educationplan, including evaluation of the process and outcome, andfacilitation of staff participation.
- Improves and maintains personal management skills byparticipating in self-development activities such as seminars,workshops, classes, and literature review.
- Participates in research and/or quality initiatives.
- Other duties may be assigned by the department or hospitalleadership.
