Description: Full time position for a parent or primary caregiver of a child with emotional, behavioral and/or mental health challenges served in Michigan's public mental health system. Will function as part of the LCCMHA treatment team to provide support to other parents who have a child receiving services from LCCMHA Children's Services.

Duties: Under the supervision of a Mental Health Program Director and a Program Coordinator, provides supportive interventions to parents of children with serious emotional disturbance, as part of the treatment process, to assist parents to be empowered, confident and develop skills that will enable them to assist their child to improve in functioning. The trained peer, who has or had a child with special mental health needs, provides education, training, and support and augments the assessment and mental health treatment process.

Qualifications: Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license. High school diploma or equivalent. Must be a parent or caregiver for a youth with serious emotional disturbance, and have first-hand experience with the public mental health system. Must demonstrate the ability to engage parents of youth with SED in supportive relationships. Must have basic computer literacy skills and the ability to successfully use an electronic medical record to complete documentation requirements. Experience navigating at least one agency serving children. Knowledge of community services and resources for children with emotional, behavioral and/or mental health challenges.
