Paraprofessionals play an important role in supporting students, teachers, and classrooms. Positions may be available in both general education and special education settings.
Responsibilities May Include:
- Supporting classroom instruction and student learning
- Working with individual students or small groups
- Assisting students with academic, behavioral, social, or communication needs
- Helping maintain a positive and safe learning environment
- Supervising students during classroom and school activities
- Supporting students with daily living or mobility needs, depending on assignment
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required, and depending on position:
- Complete 48 hours at an institution of higher education OR
- Obtain an associate's (or higher) degree OR
- Pass a State approved Paraprofessional assessment*
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
- Kansas Certification of Health
Experience working with children or individuals with special needs is helpful, but not required for all positions.
*Paraeducator Online Certification test provided by USD 457.
