Pine River-Backus Schools is searching for a paraprofessional to begin with the school year. The starting hourly wage is $18.42. Benefits include: paid sick and personal leave, paid holidays, group health insurance, life insurance and a pension plan (Public Employee Retirement Association).
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must meet Title One requirements by one of the following:
    • Passing score on Para Pro exam
    • Two-year post secondary degree or equivalent
Job Summary: Paraprofessionals assist teachers with various tasks. These include the following areas: lunchroom, playground, transportation, media center, copy room, classroom assistance, behavioral intervention or computer lab.
Major Areas of Accountability:
  • Assists students and teachers in classroom or designated area. Duties and responsibilities may include:
    • Provides direct instructional support to individual and/or groups of students, monitors behavior and attends designated classes/activities with the students as outlined in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) and directed by instructor.
    • Assists in technological programs such as computer labs and instructional technology.
    • Performs media center duties under the direction of the media center specialist.
    • Assists teachers in maintaining discipline.
    • Prepares material necessary for activities in the classroom as directed by the teacher.
    • Supervision of students as directed by licensed teacher/supervisor.
    • Attends to and provides for students' daily hygiene, personal and health related cares, including dressing, feeding, lifting, transferring, toileting/diapering, and medical cares as directed by licensed staff.
    • Other tasks assigned by the supervising teacher or principal.
  • Helps insure a safe and secure environment. Duties and responsibilities may include:
    • Supervises areas where students gather such as hallways, classrooms, media centers, playground, bus areas and lunchroom.
    • Accompanies students to and from various rooms.
    • Assists students arriving and departing on buses.
    • Accompanies students when being transported, as needed.
    • Loads/unloads wheelchair-bound students on bus and/or waits with students for transportation.
    • Keeps working areas in neat order throughout the day.
Physical Involvement:
  • Position requires extended periods of sitting, standing and stooping for performing classroom activities and supervision.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
Mental Involvement:
  • Ability to respond to changing technology.
  • Exercises a high level of confidentiality in handling District information.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once while dealing with constant interruptions.
Working Conditions:
  • Normal classroom conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to bodily fluids and airborne pathogens.
  • Occasional lifting/restraining of students.
  • May require exposure to outside temperatures and weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:
  • Prior experience working with children preferred but not required.
