Support Staff Position

This position supports teachers in addressing student behavior, instructional needs, and medical or health requirements. The students in this center-based program may need a lot of adult support with activities of daily living and with accessing their education. It includes assisting with clerical tasks, student supervision, and redirection. Additionally, the role involves providing feedback to teachers on individual student performance and needs. The position may involve riding the bus and providing student supervision on the bus to and from the work site during morning and afternoon bus runs.

Instructional Support: Provide individualized or small-group instruction to students, reinforcing concepts taught by the teacher. Assist students with completing assignments, using accommodations and modifications as specified in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Implement instructional strategies and techniques as directed by the teacher. Utilize a variety of teaching methods and materials to meet individual learning styles. Assist with the preparation of instructional materials and classroom organization. Collect and record data on student progress, as directed by the teacher.

Behavioral Support: Implement behavior management plans and strategies to support positive behavior. Assist students in developing appropriate social skills. De-escalate challenging behaviors using approved techniques. Provide emotional support and encouragement to students. Monitor and report student behavior to the teacher.

Collaboration and Communication: Communicate regularly with the supervising teacher regarding student progress, challenges, and needs. Collaborate with teachers, special service providers, and other staff members to support student success. Maintain confidentiality of student information. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, as directed by the teacher.

Health and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Personal Care: Assistance with toileting, diapering, and feminine hygiene with a focus on maintaining student dignity. Feeding Support: Implementing specialized feeding protocols, including G-tube monitoring (if trained) or assistance with specialized utensils. Mobility & Positioning: Executing safe lifting, transferring, and positioning protocols (e.g., standers, gait trainers, wheelchairs) as directed by PT/OT.

Instructional and Communication Support AAC Implementation: Facilitating the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices or PECS throughout the school day. Modified Curriculum Delivery: Leading small-group or individual sessions using "Access Skills" (e.g., Extended Evidence Outcomes) under the direction of the Special Educator. Prompting & Scaffolding: Using a hierarchy of prompts (physical, gestural, verbal) to help students complete tasks, with a focus on fading prompts for independence.

Other Duties: Supervise students in various settings (classroom, playground, cafeteria, etc.). Maintain a safe and organized learning environment. Attend professional development training as required. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Education/Training/Experience: High school graduate or equivalent. Bachelor's degree (preferred). Bilingual/Spanish preferred English fluency will be determined through the interview process. Licenses or Certifications: Valid Colorado Driver's License. Current First Aid and CPR (or obtained within first 60 days of employment).
