Position Overview
The Paraprofessional provides instructional, behavioral, and personal care support to students under the direction of certified staff and administration. This position works directly with students requiring additional assistance to support educational access, daily functioning, safety, and participation within the school environment. Responsibilities may include assisting students with personal care needs, including toileting and diapering.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support & Instruction
  • Assist students individually and in small group settings under the supervision of certified staff.
  • Support implementation of instructional activities, accommodations, and behavior plans.
  • Reinforce academic, behavioral, and social-emotional goals established by the instructional team.
  • Assist with classroom organization, preparation of instructional materials, and student supervision.
  • Support students during transitions, lunch, recess, transportation, and other school activities as assigned.
Personal Care & Student Safety
  • Provide personal care assistance to students as needed, including toileting, diapering, feeding, hygiene, dressing, and mobility support.
  • Maintain student dignity, confidentiality, and safety during all personal care activities.
  • Follow district procedures related to health, sanitation, and student care needs.
  • Assist with monitoring student health, behavior, and safety concerns and report concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Support implementation of student-specific medical or safety plans as directed.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, related service providers, and administration to support student success.
  • Communicate appropriately and professionally with staff and families as directed.
  • Participate in trainings and meetings related to student support, safety, and assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information in accordance with district and legal requirements.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Adhere to district policies, procedures, and the Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and positive working relationships.
  • Participate in required professional development and trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card required
  • Ability to work effectively with students with diverse educational, behavioral, and physical needs
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or special education setting
  • Experience supporting students with disabilities or personal care needs
  • Knowledge of behavior support strategies and classroom support practices
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred
Working Conditions
  • School and classroom environment with frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and student interaction
  • May require lifting, transferring, or physically assisting students as needed
  • Frequent exposure to bodily fluids and personal care tasks
  • May require lifting up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Occasional evening or after-school responsibilities
