Position Title: Paraprofessional
Location: Elementary School
Reports to: Superintendent, school principal, and classroom teacher
SUMMARY
Provide the necessary skills and knowledge to support the student and classroom teacher within the classrooms of the Illini Bluffs School District.
DUTIES
  1. Aid classroom teacher as required and needed.
  2. Discusses assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts.
  3. Prepares lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations as needed.
  4. Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.
  5. Tutors and assists children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
  6. Distributes teaching materials such as textbooks, workbooks, papers, and pencils to students.
  7. Distributes tests and homework assignments, and collects them when they are completed.
  8. Grades homework and tests, and computes and records results, using answer sheets or electronic marking devices.
  9. Teaches socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement.
  10. Works with students with multiple physical, mental, and developmental disabilities.
  11. Is familiar with and uses adaptive equipment including, communication equipment, wheel chairs, adaptive feeding tools, etc.
  12. Assists students with self-care, hygiene, and feeding as necessary.
  13. May be required to perform tasks that students are not able to do, i.e. taking notes, handling materials, holding books, etc.
  14. May work with/handle resistive students.
  15. Maintain a positive attitude with all personnel to promote a positive school climate.
  16. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
  17. Assists with the supervision of students during non-instructional times, including but not limited to, emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
  18. Maintains work area and classroom as a safe and productive learning environment.
  19. Alerts the classroom teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  20. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  21. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation, pertaining to teacher and students.
  22. Continuously strives to improve professional competence and collaboration with colleagues and communities.
  23. Implements all rules and regulations, policies and administrative guidelines as adopted by the School Board for the district.
  24. Maintains a professional appearance.
  25. Maintains regular attendance.
  26. Adheres to the professional code of conduct.
  27. Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
  28. Assists the classroom teacher in other tasks necessary in maintaining a professional and positive classroom environment, and performs other teacher aide duties as may be assigned by the classroom teacher, administration, or Board of Education.
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Must possess a valid State of Illinois Paraprofessional Certification.
  2. Experience related to classroom preferred.
  3. Associate's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education; completed 60 semester hours of college credit at a regionally accredited institution of higher education; HS Diploma or GED and a score of 460 or higher on the ETS Parapro; or HS Diploma or GED and passing scores on the ACT Workkeys.
  4. Must be at least 19 years of age.
  5. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to work with teachers, education support personnel, building administrators, and the general public.
  6. Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner.
  7. Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils.
  8. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  9. Requires employee to have the ability to push/pull up to 10 lbs.
  10. Must be detailed oriented.
  11. Other Qualifications as might be determined as necessary by the school board

SCHEDULING
The work year is established by the school board annually in accordance with state law, and workday requirements for the classroom aide coincide with the number of student attendance days.
Starting pay:
$17.50 (Previous experience a plus and to be considered)
Bonus :
$400 ($150 - 60 days from hire date, $250 on 1-year anniversary)
$150 retainment if remain employed.
