Ballard Community School district currently needs full-time paraprofessionals in all of our buildings. Para-educators work approximately 36 hours per week. This position is assigned to work 173 student contact days. Additionally, paraprofessionals receive 4 paid holidays and do not work during summers or school breaks.
Primary Responsibilities:

Support teachers in meeting the needs of students in the special education or general education classroom.

Support academic instruction with individual and/or small groups of students.

Supervise students during other components of the school day.
Compensation: Pay is annualized so you will receive a check in July and August. Minimum hourly base rate is $13.85. Additional compensation is available for related experience and education such as a paraprofessional certificate, AA degree, or BA/BS degree.
Benefits:This position includes a district paid individual health plan, $20,000 life insurance policy and long-term disability. Optional dental and vision coverage, flex spending and dependent care accounts are also available. IPERS contributions begin day 1 and paid leave (sick and personal) are provided,
Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED required

Prefer candidates that meet one of the following prior to employment:
-
Complete 60 credit hours of study at an institution of higher education

Obtain an associate's (or higher) degree

Para-educator certification
-
Elementary Para-educator experience
-
Teaching Degree
-
Display a basic understanding of the needs of children.
-
Ability to relate effectively to children with different academic and behavioral needs.

Display patience and compassion and maintain a caring and helpful relationship with children.

Display professional communications skills including active listening, written and oral.
-
Ability to physically lift up to 50 lbs.
-
Ability to bend, lift, sit on floor, run short distances, and assist physically active students.

Demonstrate the emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved.

Demonstrate initiative and the insight to anticipate problem situations and respond accordingly.

Ability to take directions, work with minimal supervision and follow policies and practices.
