Bilingual Paraprofessional (Spanish)
Location: District Wide Employment Type: Full-Time Work Days: 180 Days / 10 Months FLSA: Non-Exempt Reports to: Building Principal Salary/Benefits Beginning Salary: $19.29 per hour, in accordance with the Paraprofessional Salary Schedule. The District offers health, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits in accordance with Board policy and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
Job Summary: The Bilingual Paraprofessional assists the classroom teacher by providing instructional and language support to students. This position works with individual students and small groups, assists with classroom activities, and helps English Learners access classroom instruction. The paraprofessional also supports communication between the school and Spanish-speaking families as needed.
Minimum Education, Certification, and Licensure: High School Diploma or GED required. Illinois Paraprofessional License or approval required. Must be fluent in English and Spanish. Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and families.
Professional Experience and Skills: Experience working with children preferred. Ability to provide one-on-one and small-group instructional support. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Basic computer skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities: Assist the teacher with classroom instruction and daily activities. Work with students individually and in small groups. Reinforce lessons and instructional activities. Assist with classroom management and student supervision. Prepare instructional materials and classroom resources. Support English Learners during classroom instruction. Assist with translating basic communication for Spanish-speaking families when needed. Maintain student records and documentation as assigned. Participate in meetings and professional development. Perform other duties as assigned.
Student Support, Engagement, and Staff Development: Support students academically and behaviorally. Encourage positive student engagement. Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff. Help create a safe, welcoming, and respectful learning environment.
Terms of Employment: Salary Range: In accordance with the Board-approved Paraprofessional Salary Schedule. Prairie-Hills Elementary School District 144 conducts pre-employment drug testing and background checks.
