Paraprofessional
The Carlynton School District is accepting applications for Paraprofessional positions for the school year.
Paraprofessionals support students and staff in a variety of educational settings throughout the District. The District employs paraprofessionals in multiple classifications, including:
* Instructional Aide
* English Language Learner (ELL) Aide
* Life Skills/Autistic Support Aide
* Personal Care Aide
Specific position classification, building location, work schedule, and assignment will be determined in accordance with the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement and District staffing needs. Interested applicants should possess a desire to support students in achieving academic, behavioral, social, and functional success while working collaboratively with teachers, administrators, related service providers, and other school staff. Applicants must meet all required qualifications and clearances for employment. Please refer to the attached job descriptions for the responsibilities and qualifications associated with each paraprofessional classification. Salary, benefits, and terms of employment are governed by the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Position Summary :
  • Maintain professionalism
  • Ability to work with individuals or small groups of students under direct supervision from the classroom and/or special education teacher
  • Maintain and monitor student behavior and discipline including maintaining familiarity with and implementing behavior modification techniques/behavior intervention plans under teacher direction per the student position behavior support plan, IEP, classroom or school wide positive behavior support plan
  • Monitor classroom behaviors and discipline when the teacher is out of the room
  • Support and implement the programming designed by the classroom teacher, related service provider or special education teacher
  • Handle a crisis situation
  • Serve as bus monitor
  • Maintain 20 hours of professional development to keep highly qualified status
  • Maintain CPR/First Aide and/or Crisis Intervention/Restraint training
  • Keep in confidence information about students, professional and paraprofessional employees of the Carlynton School District
  • Be available for job training
  • Assist with any clerical tasks that pertain to classroom instruction
  • Be flexible as daily schedule may change based on student/caseload needs
  • Instructional Aides may be assigned across building, grade, and student IEP/scheduling needs
  • Availability to be reassigned by building administrator to cover absence of an employee as dictated by prioritized/mandated special education IEP needs

Professional Qualifications :
  • High school diploma required; associate degree or PDE-qualified Para educator status
    preferred by demonstrating proficiency on established qualification exam.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse cultural and linguistic
    backgrounds.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of instructional support strategies.
  • Bilingual skills optional but preferred.

Physical Demands :
  • Ability to move about the school building, sit or stand for extended periods, and support
    students during regular classroom activities.
  • Often sitting for extended periods.
  • Standing for periods of time.
  • Moderate lifting from 15-30 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to use technology equipment.
Work Environment :
  • Working within the schoolhouse with occasional outdoor activities.
  • School term as outlined in the SCA Agreement.
Clearances :
  • Every employee must submit an Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form as
    required under Pennsylvania Act 24 of 2011, Act 34 (Criminal Record Check), Act 151
    (Child Abuse History Check), FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) Criminal History
    Check, Act 126 (Part I) Recognizing Child Abuse and Mandated Reporter Training, and
    Act 126 (Part II) Professional Ethics & Educator Discipline Act.
  • As per Act 15 of 2015, all clearances must be renewed every five (5) years. Also, as of
    December 22, 2014, Act 168 of 2014 requires all newly hired employees to provide the
    District with the Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release Form for all former
    employers in which they had direct contact with children and any current employer/s.
    The District may not hire any applicant for a position until the employment history
    review process has been completed.
Terms of Employment :
  • School Term. Salary and benefits per the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the
    Carlynton School District and the Carlynton Federation of Teachers, AFT Pennsylvania
    Local #2120, AFT-PA, AFL-CIO, Secretarial-Cafeteria-Aides Unit.
Evaluation :
  • Performance will be evaluated by the Building Principal on the basis of this job
    description at least once annually. This job description is subject to change as
    determined by the Superintendent.
  • Approved by Administration and provided to the Board of School Directors January 20,
    2026.
