Job PostingJob Summary: Evaluates, treats, and stabilizes routine, urgent and emergent patients within the scope of standing orders established by sponsoring physician. Provide FAA-approved guidance and observations. Provide guard support for animal activity.Location: Fly-in/fly-out remote medical/industrial positions within rural Alaska in support of oil/gas and mining operationsEmployment Type: Seasonal, June to OctoberResponsibilitiesEssential Duties & Responsibilities:Medic:Utilize medical equipment and procedures including defibrillator, EKG monitor, oxygen and suction devices, intravenous fluids, CPR and other procedures and medications as required to provide advanced medical careProvide patient care according to clinical protocols and safety requirementsCommunicate with receiving facility, Alaska MEDEVAC systems, and Medical ControlOperate as a team leader and take responsibility for scene management as neededMonitor and maintain the general condition of the project medical facility; keep it clean and resupply any deficienciesPrepare accurate, thorough documentation of every patient contact and patient care reportPerform other duties as required to support the projectBear Guard:Pays constant attention to surroundings and work situations while creating and maintaining a safe work environmentWorks well in a multi-disciplined team environmentSafely handles a firearm and is willing to use it at a moment's notice for wildlife deterrenceAble to make good decisions while staying unemotionalResponsible for daily care of weapon and ammunitionWrites reports of wildlife sightings and submits to supervisorWilling to fly in small aircraft and helicopters as needed to access work sitesPossesses basic survival skills and the ability to navigate using GPS, compass or mapsCommunicates as needed via satellite phones and radiosKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Full comprehension of Standing OrdersExpert knowledge of defibrillators and IV pumpsWork well in teams, alone, and in diverse populations of peopleDemonstrate ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with HSE Team Members and Operational Management TeamAbility to establish priorities, work independently, and complete objectivesUnderstand and utilize pre-hospital care Emergency Medical Service equipmentUnderstands the use of over-the-counter medications and applies aggressive first aid guidelines to support the Natural Resources industry OSHA requirementsQualificationsMinimum Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent (GED)Must be 21 years of agePossess a valid driver's licenseCurrent state/national registry Paramedic/EMT III license/certificateCurrent CPR, ACLS, and ITLS3 years Emergency Medical Service experienceMust attend an 8-hour Wildlife Awareness and Gun Proficiency classAbility to pass a background check to carry firearmsAbility to assembles, disassemble, and clean firearmMust be fit for service at all times while in workplacePreferred Qualifications:1 year working in austere locationsPhysical Requirements:Ability to lift, carry, and balance an adult patient with the assistance of othersAbility to run, walk, bend, and crawl on uneven terrainAbility to withstand varied environmental conditions such as extreme heat, cold, and moistureAbility to work in low light and confined spacesAbility to operate a motor vehicle (including ATVs)Working Conditions:2 weeks on 2 weeks off schedule or as determined by clientWork in remote locations as an independent providerMust be willing to work overtime and be on-call while at the site as neededMust be willing to work weekends and holidays as neededMay be required to fly in small aircraftsReasonable Accommodation: It is Fairweather's business philosophy and practice to provide reasonable accommodations, according to applicable state and federal laws, to all qualified individuals with physical or mental disabilities.Preference Statement: Fairweather grants preference to qualified Doyon Shareholders first, and second to qualified shareholders of other Alaska Native corporations that grant a similar preference in all phases of employment and training, which include, but are not limited to hiring, promotion, layoff, transfer, and training.
