Paralegal – Security & Counterparty

Base Location: Remote based out of Tampa, Miami, Jacksonville, Charlotte & Birmingham.

What is this role?

As a Paralegal in this team you would be responsible for providing administrative support to other members of the Security & Counterparty team in relation to contracts that need reviewing and agency applications that need completing. They will assist with the creation, maintenance and integrity of the business records as requested by the Head of Security & Counterparty.

The job holder will ensure that responsibilities and agreed objectives are completed in accordance with the relevant Company and/or Group policies, and consistent with their assigned responsibilities.

What will you be doing?

Planning/Reporting

  • Maintains records to produce metrics and updates measures to ensure their continued effectiveness
  • Manages assigned projects and contributes to other projects as required with minimal supervision
  • Provides relevant management information to senior management with minimal supervision

Technical

  • Assists the business to complete Agency/Intermediary questionnaires and other on-boarding documents
  • Works with more senior members of the team to gather and utilise information contained within the Company systems and where applicable externally which is used for the monitoring of security and counterparties
  • Mentoring more junior members of the team and providing training and support when required
  • Keeps informed of all regulatory and legal changes which impacts on the job role
  • Ensures up to date records are maintained at all times on the Company systems
  • Responds appropriately to urgent issues as they arise
  • Reviewing and negotiating various SCP contracts with minimal supervision
  • Attending market and client calls
  • Providing support to the Contracts Manager and acting as deputy in the Contracts Manager’s absence.

  • Meets all competency requirements by undertaking training and following agreed principle, policies, processes and procedures
  • Ensures accurate records are maintained and highlights any potential improvements in procedures to other members of the team
  • Interprets instructions and issues arising, and then implement actions according to policies and procedures

  • Builds strong and effective relationships across the business to promote a positive image of the Security & Counterparty team and efficiently support work activities.
  • Promotes an open line of communication to, from and within the Security & Counterparty team
  • Maintains awareness of organisational structures and activities, including cross-border activities and intercompany relationships/dependencies, in order to understand business dynamics, pressures and needs.
  • Maintains awareness of regulatory developments and supports the business in assessing impacts and enhancing controls where necessary.
  • Attends internal and external seminars, forums and events where necessary, to increase own knowledge and understanding of changing priorities, new legislation and market trends etc.
  • Behaves with all clients (both internal and external) fairly and ethically
  • Shares information that could be beneficial to the Operating Entity/Group

  • Actively undertakes personal development to ensure up to date knowledge and understanding of best practice
  • Remains aware of external, industry, legal and regulatory developments etc. to ensure practice and outputs are of a sufficiently high standard
  • Keeps informed of all legal and regulatory developments relevant to the Operating Entity/Group

Regulatory and Compliance

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable legal, fiscal and regulatory obligations in the form of policies and procedures
  • Ensures correct authorisation is obtained and processes followed when required by the Operating Entity and/or Group
  • Maintains accurate records and deal with correspondence appropriately
  • Operates in an honest, professional and ethical manner
  • Strictly adheres to the Group Employee Code of Conduct which strongly aligns to the FCA’s code of conduct that all regulated entities must adhere to
  • Completes all relevant regulatory training

What are we looking for?

  • Ideally a few years Legal experience within the Insurance industry.
