Job Summary:
To provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which Special Needs students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ability to implement specific student goals and objectives in the areas of communication, hygiene and behavior.
  • Ability to follow specific behavior and medical plans.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the classroom, in writing and in person with students, staff and parents.
  • Ability to perform necessary physical tasks as needed by each student, such as pushing a wheelchair, transferring a student in and out of a wheelchair, assisting in toileting students as needed, changing diapers and handling personal hygiene needs of students as needed or medically invasive procedures such as catheterization, feeding tubes etc.
  • Ability to make quick, accurate and reasonable decisions when dealing with the instructional, behavioral and/or medical plans of students

Working Conditions:
  • Ability to work with a variety of staff including teachers.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
  • Trained in, or willing to be trained (and demonstrate competency) in non-violent crisis intervention, physical management.Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate to students, staff and parents, using a clear, rational thought process
  • Ability to modify students' lessons in accordance with student's individual plan
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to use calculators.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions and to be able to articulate these instructions to students.
  • Ability to articulate their thoughts and language process in a concise, professional manner.
  • Ability to make quick, reasonable decisions, especially when dealing with a student's well being and safety. Ability to deal with problems involving variables in different types of situation s, including volatile situations.
  • Ability to effectively modify classroom assignments with appropriate instructional methods.
  • Ability to assist students in the mediation of relationship problems between students as needed
  • Ability to operate personal computer, and calculator
Salary & Schedule:
  • $19.00 Per Hour
  • Monday - Friday
  • 7.5 Hours Per Day
