Substitute Para-Educator

This position is non-exempt. The primary function is to assist the classroom teacher by performing assigned duties related to the learning process such as assembling and preparing instructional materials and monitoring students under the direction/supervision of the teacher or building administrator in the absence of the regular Para-educator.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or copy of high school transcript. The candidate should have the ability to quickly learn procedures and follow oral and written directions. Reports to the principal and director of human resources.

Performance responsibilities include reporting to the designated individual upon arrival at the school, demonstrating a willingness to work with all students, maintaining student confidentiality, and reporting student incidents or accidents to the appropriate administrator as deemed necessary. Follows all policies, rules and procedures, remains in the building or on school grounds during the hours assigned as a substitute, models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities, and performs other duties as assigned.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential performance responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Possess familiarity with the duties of a school Para-Educator, demonstrate some knowledge of the principles and methodologies of a Para-Educator, possess ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, & the public.

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer. See and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone. Possess the physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds, ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and to reach overhead.

Salary according to School Board Pay Plan. Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations.
