Job Title: Painter Trainee Job Description

The Painter Trainee role offers a structured training program in industrial spray painting, preparing you to become a full-time production painter. You will learn to operate an overhead crane, perform paint preparation, and support various production areas while following detailed work instructions and blueprints. This position requires strong attention to detail, a commitment to safety and quality, and the flexibility to work both independently and as part of a team on a consistent attendance schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Receive a passing score on the Painter Qualification test and recertify skills as required by program guidelines.

  • Participate in a 7–10 week training program on first shift to learn industrial spray painting and related production processes.

  • Operate an overhead crane safely to maneuver parts into place for painting and production activities.

  • Perform industrial spray painting and paint preparation tasks according to established procedures and quality standards.

  • Train and work in various areas of production in response to changing production demands.

  • Follow verbal and written work instructions, including the ability to read and interpret blueprints.

  • Use hand tools, power tools, and basic mechanical assembly techniques to support production work as needed.

  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by following all procedures, rules, and regulations.

  • Work effectively in both team-based and individual settings to meet production goals.

  • Demonstrate consistent and regular attendance to support training and production schedules.

  • Comply with all safety guidelines while working in a hot manufacturing environment.

  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities related to industrial spray painting and production support as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn and apply mechanical and manufacturing concepts.

  • Manufacturing experience in a production or industrial environment.

  • Ability to read and follow blueprints, verbal instructions, and written work instructions.

  • Experience or exposure to painting, either professionally, through schooling, or as a hobbyist.

  • Comfort using tape measures, hand tools, and power tools in a manufacturing setting.

  • Ability to perform basic mechanical assembly tasks.

  • Strong attention to detail to adhere to quality standards and specifications.

  • Ability to work safely in a hot environment and around industrial equipment.

  • Reliability and commitment to regular attendance on the assigned shift.

  • Willingness to work either second or third shift after training and to commit to a specific shift.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior industrial spray painting experience is beneficial but not required if you have related exposure or training.

  • Experience working in both independent and team-based roles within a manufacturing environment.

  • Comfort working with overhead cranes or similar material-handling equipment.

  • Interest in developing long-term skills in industrial painting and production work.

  • Openness to structured training and skills testing, including the Painter Qualification test.

  • Flexibility to transition from first-shift training to second or third shift upon completion of the training program.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility with a strong focus on production efficiency and teamwork, particularly on second and third shifts, where staffing levels are a priority. You will begin with a 7–10 week training period on first shift, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. After completing training and passing the paint test, you will transition to either second shift (3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.) or third shift (11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.), with a shift differential provided for these shifts. The environment is hot, and you must be comfortable working in the elements and around industrial equipment such as overhead cranes, hand tools, power tools, and mechanical assembly stations. The culture emphasizes the ability to work both independently and with others to meet production goals. The dress code requires jeans, steel-toe footwear, and a clean work shirt to support safety and professionalism on the production floor.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mc Connellsburg, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $22.75/hr.
