In this role, you'll use your expertise in painting, finishing, and drywall repair to maintain the beauty and functionality of our buildings and spaces. If you enjoy hands-on work, attention to detail, and seeing the visible results of your craftsmanship, we invite you to apply and be part of the team that helps our campus shine.Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, patching, priming, and ensuring optimal conditions for paintingPaint a variety of surfaces, including walls, ceilings, casework, fixtures, handrails, bollards, and equipmentPerform advanced surface preparation, including sanding, applying wood filler, Bondo, caulking, and completing drywall repairsMatch paint colors and finishes to maintain consistency throughout campus facilitiesMix and tint paints accurately using specialized equipmentInspect work areas, materials, and vehicles regularly to ensure safety and compliance with hazardous material regulationsReport safety concerns, infractions, accidents, and injuries promptly in accordance with University policyAssist with power washing and other maintenance projects across campus as neededCollaborate with other Trade Shops units to support broader maintenance and repair initiativesLift up to 60 pounds frequently and up to 90 plus pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodationsCommunicate effectively with supervisors and the general public, understand and follow verbal and written instructions and other communications related to work assignments and other mattersThis position is designated as Essential Personnel and is required to report to work during adverse weather conditions or emergencies, even when the University is operating on an alternative schedule.

May include assisting with snow and ice removal as directed by a supervisor. Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.QualificationsMinimum Experience/Education - High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.Preferred Qualifications - Journeyman-level commercial painting experience Experience working within multi-trade environments Skilled in the mixing of paints and in matching and blending colorsRequired License or Certification - Valid driver's license required.

Valid North Carolina driver's license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
