Overhead Crane Operator
We are seeking a safety-focused and dependable Overhead Crane Operator to join our steel operations team. The ideal candidate will have experience operating overhead bridge cranes in a steel service center, warehouse, fabrication shop, or manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for safely moving, loading, unloading, and staging steel products while maintaining productivity and adherence to safety standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate overhead bridge cranes to move steel beams, plates, and other steel products throughout the facility.
- Safely load and unload trucks, trailers, and railcars.
- Stage materials for production, shipping, and customer orders.
- Perform daily inspections of cranes, lifting devices, chains, slings, and hooks.
- Verify material identification and ensure proper handling procedures are followed.
- Work closely with shipping, receiving, warehouse, and production personnel to meet operational goals.
- Assist with inventory control, cycle counts, and material organization.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Follow OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and industry best practices.
- Report equipment issues, safety concerns, and damaged materials to supervisors.
Qualifications
- Previous overhead crane operating experience required.
- Experience handling steel products preferred.
- Knowledge of rigging practices and load control techniques.
- Ability to read work orders, shipping documents, and material tags.
- Experience operating forklifts is a plus.
- Strong attention to safety and detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb throughout the workday.
- Comfortable working in a warehouse, steel yard, or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions if required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Overhead Crane Certification
