Outside Machinist

Outside MachinistHutco, Inc. is seeking experienced Outside Machinists to support shipyard operations at the Newport News Shipbuilding facility. Candidates must have at least 4 years of shipyard or naval experience as a First-Class Machinist.

This role demands familiarity with shipboard mechanical systems, the ability to work from technical drawings, and a strong commitment to safety and quality.Primary ResponsibilitiesPerform mechanical repairs, overhauls, and installations on shipboard equipment.Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, schematics, and technical manuals.Work with various systems and equipment including: Winches, anchor windlasses, steering gearAir compressors, valves, and pumpsDiesel engines, gas turbines, reduction gearsPropulsion systems, shafts, propellers, ruddersGenerators, steam turbines, hydraulic systemsElevators, doors, weapons systems, deck equipmentConduct valve overhauls (steam/WOG), lube oil flushing, hydrostatic testing, and optical alignment.Perform shaft alignment and precision fitting using tools such as: Micrometers, dial indicators, rulers, and calipersTorque wrenches, grinders, boring bars, drill presses, portable millsAdhere to all technical, quality, and safety standards per OSHA and shipyard regulations.Required QualificationsExperience: 4+ years as a First-Class Machinist in shipyard or naval settings.Technical Proficiency: Skilled in precision measuring instruments and alignment tools.Familiarity with hull insert installations, fasteners, and shipbuilding nomenclature.Must be capable of working from blueprints and performing complex mechanical work.Physical Requirements: Capable of lifting 50 lbs regularly and working in confined spaces.Must be able to climb ladders, work at heights, and perform physically demanding tasks.Tolerance for varied temperatures and humidity conditions.Work Environment & Physical DemandsTask/Ability - RequiredLifting/Carrying (up to 50 lbs)Standing/Walking (75%+ of shift)Climbing LaddersWorking in Confined SpacesExposure to Dust, Fumes, OdorsUse of Tools and MachineryVisual/Hearing/TalkingTemperature ExtremesReporting StructureReports To: Assigned Shop Foreman or Project SupervisorWorks With: Planning, QA, Safety, and Production TeamsSupervision Level: Independent task management expected after onboardingBenefitsA limited benefit plan is available to Hutco Inc. employees through Essential Staff Care.Available plans include:Medical/PrescriptionDental CoverageVision CoverageShort Term DisabilityTerm Life BenefitsAccidental Death & Dismemberment BenefitHutco, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
