First Class Marine MachinistLocation: Newport News, VAJob Type: Full-TimePay Range: $35.00/hourPer Diem: $120/day (Non-Local Employees Only)Bonus: Hire BonusOverview: We are seeking experienced First Class Marine Machinists to support shipbuilding and ship repair operations in Newport News, VA. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience installing, maintaining, and aligning shipboard propulsion systems and machinery. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to read technical drawings, and experience working in commercial or naval shipyard environments.ResponsibilitiesInstall and align main engines, propulsion systems, and shipboard machineryPerform valve overhaul and maintenance on steam and WOG valvesInstall and repair pumps, motors, compressors, and hydraulic componentsPerform hydrostatic testing, lube oil flushing, and system cleanliness proceduresInstall heat exchangers, condensers, turbines, and diesel enginesPerform shafting, bearing work, and liner fittingInstall shipboard equipment including anchor windlasses, winches, cranes, and elevatorsAssist with boiler operations, distilling plant testing, and AC/refrigeration systemsOperate lathes, boring bars, portable milling machines, and drilling equipmentPerform drilling, tapping, flange makeup, and alignment proceduresUtilize lapping and blue-checking tools to ensure proper fit and alignmentFollow all shipyard safety procedures and quality standardsQualificationsMinimum four (4+) years of commercial or naval experience as a First-Class MachinistFamiliarity with OSHA regulations related to shipbuilding and ship repairAbility to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and diagramsWorking knowledge of shipbuilding terminology and ship systemsExperience using precision measuring tools, including micrometers, rulers, and related instrumentsStrong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamMust be a U.S.
