Position Summary:
Support South Dakota Mines' public image and K-12 education pipeline by planning and executing public relations and K-12-focused events, and by developing community and K-12 outreach efforts that connect prospective students with Mines resources.

Position Summary:
Support South Dakota Mines' public image and K-12 education pipeline by planning and executing public relations and K-12-focused events, and by developing community and K-12 outreach efforts that connect prospective students with Mines resources.
Duties include:
- Plan, organize, and execute public relations events and K-12 programming, such as the science fair and Engineering & Science Week
- Manage event budgets, including projections and expenditure tracking
- Collaborate and coordinate events with other departments, university personnel, and outside entities
- Serve as chair or participant on committees
- Build and maintain a public-facing outreach webpage in partnership with Marketing & Communications
- Maintain a campus-wide inventory of K-12 and community outreach activities
- Build relationships with area teachers and coordinate outreach events connecting them with SD Mines STEM faculty
- Partner with the database administrator to track prospective students from outreach events
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge of:
- planning and effectively executing both large and small events;
- public relations principles and practices for building and maintaining a positive public image;
- K-12 education environments and effective approaches to engaging teachers and school partners;
- professional office environment and procedures, including excellent interpersonal skills;
- work processes and practices pertaining to public administration, management, and professional subject areas;
- basic statistical measures, research methods, database development and maintenance;
- high level of proficiency with computer systems and common applications (Google Calendar, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), including basic website content management.
- communicate information clearly and concisely in person and/or writing, exercising tact, patience, discretion and professional demeanor;
- organize work, manage multiple events and outreach relationships simultaneously, work independently and learn quickly;
- establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships, interacting in a supportive manner with a variety of cultures and personalities, within a high-pressure environment;
- build trust and sustain long-term relationships with external partners such as teachers and school contacts;
- read, comprehend, gather, prepare, and summarize data from a variety of sources;
- type accurately, be detail oriented, have excellent organizational skills, handle multiple tasks, prioritize accordingly and meet strict deadlines;
- maintain confidential and sensitive information, including student data collected at outreach events;
- use a computer, copy machine, and other office equipment;
- provide excellent customer service.
