Responsibilities
- Integrate scientific knowledge and technical skills with effective patient interaction to provide quality patient care and useful diagnostic information.
- Complete scans effectively and efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of patient care.
- Collect pertinent data about the patient and the procedure.
- Review all pertinent data and assess the patient’s abilities and condition to select the most appropriate, cost-effective action plan.
- Screen the patient for ferrous and RF-sensitive material before the patient enters the magnetic field.
- Position and prepare patients for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures.
- Select appropriate immobilization devices.
- Review the patient’s chart and the physician’s request to determine optimal scanning parameters for the suspected pathology.
- Prepare and administer contrast agents in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Enter necessary patient information to initiate the scan(s).
- Assess and monitor the patient’s physical and mental status throughout the procedure.
- Review images to determine if additional scans will enhance the diagnostic value of the procedure.
- Document diagnostic, treatment and patient data in the appropriate record; documentation must be timely, accurate, concise and complete.
- Archive images to data storage devices according to established guidelines.
- Maintain workflow that is an effective use of time, equipment and supplies.
- Implement and maintain the MedQuest Best Customer Service Program.
- Provide accurate explanations and instructions at a level the patient can understand.
- Maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure technique.
- Exhibit a high level of technical competence and clinical judgment.
- Ensure required supplies and equipment are available; check all equipment routinely and perform preventive maintenance when necessary.
- Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues, peers and all members of the healthcare team.
- Maintain a safe environment by monitoring cryogens.
- Follow radiation protection guidelines.
- Participate in formal training and service programs.
- Ensure that deadlines are met with regards to reports.
- Perform quality assurance activities based on established quality protocols.
- Document quality assurance activities and results.
- Maintain strict confidentiality with regard to medical records and other data.
Continuing Education
- Cross-train for additional modalities within the center.
- Complete and retain certification in MRI technology.
- Build education files on an outstanding or interesting case.
