OSP Designer I

Optomi, in partnership with a leading fiber network provider, is looking for an OSP Designer 1 to join their team in El Paso, TX. This is a direct hire opportunity for an early-career designer who wants hands-on experience designing aerial and underground fiber networks.

Core Responsibilities:

• Compile field survey data (topography, utility locations, potential obstacles) to support OSP network design
• Document field conditions and use GPS and mapping tools to record data and create accurate network layouts
• Assist in designing aerial and underground fiber optic infrastructure under the supervision of senior designers
• Create construction drawings, route maps, and splice MOPs using CAD and GIS tools
• Enter and maintain accurate network data in IQGeo
• Prepare bills of materials and construction documents
• Assist in preparing CAD drawings for construction permit submissions to local authorities
• Ensure designs comply with local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards (NESC, NEC)
• Help resolve engineering and design issues that come up during project execution
• Keep all project documentation loaded and up to date

Must-Have Technical:

• Basic understanding of outside plant (OSP) fiber
• Proficiency with CAD, GIS, or other design and mapping tools
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, construction plans, and maps
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
• 0-2 years of experience in telecommunications, construction, or engineering support

Nice-to-Have:

• Bachelor’s degree in telecommunications, electrical engineering, or a related field (an associate’s degree with relevant experience may be considered)
• Familiarity with IQGeo or similar network records systems
• Experience preparing splice documentation or permit drawings
• Knowledge of NESC and NEC standards
• Hands-on field experience with fiber construction, locating, or inspection
