Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is seeking an Orthopedic Sports Medicine physician to join their team. This role offers a mix of sports and general orthopedics, focusing on diagnosing and treating acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries, arthroscopic procedures, and general orthopedic care across all age groups. Practice Info
- Mix of Sports and General Orthopedics
- 2-3 clinic days with 20-25 patients per full clinic day
- 2 OR days at Black Hills Surgical Hospital, block schedule available
- Mixed inpatient and outpatient care
- Collaboration with advanced practice, physical therapists, athletic trainers, and primary care
- Strong referral network in a growing market with planned opening of a Level III hospital in 2030
Responsibilities
- Perform history and physical examination
- Admit, evaluate, diagnose, and provide pre-, intra-, and postoperative care
- Perform orthopedic surgical procedures for patients of all ages
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic MS injuries
- Perform arthroscopic procedures (knee, shoulder) and treat sports-related injuries
- Focus on injury prevention
- Provide general orthopedic care across all age groups

- Monday-Friday
- Shared call rotation: 1:8 for Ortho urgent care and after-hours call
- APP supported call
Requirements
- M.D. or D.O. degree
- Successful completion of a hospital affiliated orthopedic surgical residency program or a clinical Fellowship of at least five years' duration accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada in the residency
- Certification by the appropriate specialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable
- If not board certified at the time of application but completed residency training within the last five years, must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of residency training

- Experience: An applicant who has just completed a residency or Fellowship shall provide his/her residency or Fellowship log
- Experience: An applicant who is not applying directly out of a residency shall provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the past 24 months, including numbers of procedures performed morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications, demonstrating at least 200 orthopedic surgery procedures in the last 24 months
- Experience: If a quality profile is not available, documentation of the applicant's hospital-based clinical activity for the past 24 months is required, demonstrating at least 200 orthopedic surgery procedures in the last 24 months
