Position Summary

To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by providing acute, episodic outpatient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, consultation and education as a certified Physician Assistant, trained in a clinical specialty.

Primary Accountabilities

Health First seeks a skilled and motivated Physician Assistant (PA) with a passion for orthopedics to join a growing, high‑performing team.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist in a wide range of orthopedic procedures
  • See a range of workers compensation, same‑day ortho access and bone wellness cases
  • Serve as a clinical resource and point of access for fellow providers within the practice
  • Injection and PRP experience preferred
  • Participate in hospital call for ortho spine
  • Contribute to clinic operations as patient volume ramps up

What We’re Looking For

  • Physician Assistant with surgical experience required
  • Strong interest or background in orthopedics preferred
  • Ability to thrive in both surgical and clinical settings
  • Team‑oriented mindset with excellent communication skills
  • Active DEA (or willingness to obtain)

Quality/No Harm & Stewardship (Responsibilities)

  • Provide care to patients in a safe environment
  • Manage acute, episodic outpatient care and health maintenance needs
  • Appropriate use and interpretation of diagnostic testing
  • Interpret assessment findings and diagnostic results for accurate differential diagnosis
  • Develop a plan of care consistent with established clinical protocols
  • Establish appropriate follow‑up plan as necessary
  • Demonstrate competent skills in therapeutic cost‑effective pharmacologic administration and management
  • Collaborate with medical directors in development of clinical protocols for delivery of outpatient care
  • Participate in departmental CQI efforts and provide support for improvement of identified issues
  • Develop and implement formal and informal teaching plans for patients, families, staff and community
  • Promote patient/family‑informed decision making in treatment plans and options
  • Facilitate development, implementation and review of standards or practice, policies and procedures, quality outcome indicators, and other designated work projects to enhance patient care

Physical Demands

  • Visual acuity and hand/eye coordination to perform clinical tasks
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to pass color blind test in order to perform point‑of‑care tests requiring color changes

Mental Demands

  • Ability to work in stressful, public contact environment with patients and families of various ages, cultures and socio‑economic statuses
  • Must be extremely flexible and able to work at variable hours and locations
  • Must be able to recognize own limits and consult a physician regarding patient care issues
  • Oversee clinical involvement of support associates and volunteers during daily clinic operations
  • Participate in clinical experience of students
  • Must be courteous and helpful, treating all people with dignity and respect
  • Must be able to concentrate on multiple priority activities
  • Must be able to respond efficiently to emergency situations

Qualifications Required

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program; Masters of Science preferred
  • Current PA license
  • Certification by the NCCPA
  • One year of related clinical experience preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology
  • Must be able to pass colorblind testing to perform POC test requiring color change
  • Must hold current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider completion card prior to start date and maintain
  • Must be able to speak and understand the English language
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision in various outpatient settings; is motivated, self‑directed and demonstrates initiative
  • Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills
  • Maintains membership in an applicable national professional organization
  • Participates and promotes public relations events
