Duties & Responsibilities

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at VCU Health System isrecruiting a board certified or eligible hand fellowship trainedorthopaedic or plastic surgeon with an interest in hand andextremity (upper and lower) orthoplastic reconstruction andmicrovascular free tissue transfer. The candidate will providediagnostic and interventional management for a full spectrum ofhand and extremity reconstructive indications. The emphasis of thepractice will be on reconstruction of traumatic and oncologicmusculoskeletal injuries and both traumatic and atraumaticconditions of the hand. Completion of an ACGME accredited HandFellowship is desired but not required if applicant has adequateexperience in complex hand trauma.

The selected candidate will be expected to collaborate ininvestigative work that leads to publications in peer-reviewedjournals and participate in both didactic and bedside teaching andmentoring activities for our medical students, residents, traumaand hand fellows. The position will be based at VirginiaCommonwealth University Medical Center, a level 1, tertiary traumacenter.

Qualifications

• A valid Virginia medical license
• MD or DO degree (or equivalent degree) from an accreditedprogram
• Completed an ACGME accredited Orthopaedic or Plastic SurgeryResidency program
• Board certification/eligibility in Orthopaedic Surgery orPlastic Surgery
• Applicants' materials must list current and/or pendingqualifications upon submission.
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
• Completion of an ACGME accredited Hand Fellowship is desiredbut not required if applicant has adequate experience in complexhand trauma.
