General Description

The Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is seeking an optometrist to join the comprehensive eye care division. The selected professional will work independently to provide primary ocular evaluations for patients at the Wilmer Eye Institute’s outpatient clinic in Bethesda, MD. Duties include vision and medical eye exams within the bounds of licensure and Maryland’s legal scope of practice. Common encounters include diabetic eye examinations, evaluation of dry eye disease, cataracts, stable glaucoma, Plaquenil screenings, triage of urgent eye or vision concerns, and comanagement of postoperative patients. On‑site referral/consultation for patients requiring surgical or advanced subspecialist care in glaucoma, retina, cornea, neuro‑ophthalmology, oculoplastics, and low vision rehabilitation is available. Vision care services include prescription of glasses and soft contact lenses, with the opportunity to build a practice in specialty therapeutic contact lenses. An on‑site optical with licensed opticians and high‑quality materials supports patient care.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of an accredited optometry residency program, or a minimum of three (3) years of experience in an ophthalmology practice setting.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of Optometry.
  • License in good standing in the State of Maryland.
  • National Provider Identification (NPI).
