nPosition Summary
nWorking with the Optometrist and patient care team, the Optician guides patients from prescription to finished eyewear, including frame and lens selection, order management, dispensing, repairs, and troubleshooting.
nModern Eyes is not a high-pressure sales environment. We focus on education, trust, accuracy, and personalized recommendations. We are looking for a Massachusetts-licensed optician with a strong technical foundation, warm communication skills, attention to detail, and pride in their work. This role is well suited to an early-career optician who wants to take on greater responsibility over time.
nThis is a full-time, 40-hour/week position with a Tuesday–Saturday schedule. No Sundays, late evenings, or major holiday work.
nWho Thrives in This Role
nSomeone compassionate, energetic, detail-oriented, eager to learn, and comfortable discussing eyewear, insurance, and fees will thrive. If you enjoy helping patients find frames and lenses they truly love, solving problems, and being part of a collaborative team, you'll truly shine.
nGrowth & Development
nAs you grow in the role, you’ll have opportunities to deepen your technical skills and participate in complex troubleshooting, frame selection, vendor relationships, inventory planning, and optical workflow improvements.
nDuties & Responsibilities
nWelcome patients warmly and professionally
nAssist with frame and lens selection, measurements, prescription verification, and patient education
nManage optical orders from tracking, receiving, quality control, and follow-up
nDispense, adjust, repair, and troubleshoot eyewear
nReview fees, insurance benefits, balances, payments, and documentation accurately
nMaintain frame inventory, contact lenses, and lab supplies
nUse EMR systems, ordering platforms, office software, and phones
nAssist with contact lens insertion/removal and hygiene training
nCommunicate with labs, vendors, and insurance plans
nMaintain an organized optical, frame board, and lab area
nSupport patient flow, clinical, and administrative tasks as needed
nExperience & Employment Requirements
nCurrent Massachusetts optician’s license
nFoundational experience with frame/lens selection, dispensing, adjustments, and repairs through licensed work, apprenticeship, or other optical experience
nStrong communication, patient care, teamwork, and attention to detail
nComfort using technology and maintaining accurate documentation
nAuthorization to work in the United States
nAbility to work full-time, in person, Tuesday–Saturday
nPreferred:
nApproximately 0–3 years after Massachusetts licensure; newly licensed opticians with strong apprenticeship or optical experience are encouraged to apply
nExperience with independent eyewear, premium or specialty lenses, and contact lens training
nFamiliarity with ophthalmic terminology, EMR systems, ordering platforms, insurance, and claims
nProficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
nPhysical Requirements
nWith or without reasonable accommodation, this role involves using optical equipment and computer systems; performing close visual tasks and measurements; using fine motor skills for adjustments and repairs; moving throughout the office; occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds; and remaining attentive and professional.
nEqual Opportunity Employer
