Responsibilities

Highly independent and responsible Advanced Practice Registered Nurse position with the HIV/Specialty Care Clinic. Part of a multidisciplinary team ensuring proper care and treatment to clients seen for HIV/AIDS, PrEP, nPEP, and community outreach services.

Primary point of care for persons living with HIV/AIDS, focusing on increasing engagement in care and maintaining viral suppression. Prepared to work independently in primary care, evidence‑based practice, data gathering, report preparation, and day‑to‑day operational assistance to the Program Manager.

Apply advanced nursing principles and techniques, prescribe, administer, and document medications, ensure Rights of Medication Administration, sensitively interview clients about communicable disease issues, utilize advanced protocols, provide holistic care including diagnosing and treating STIs, hepatitis, tuberculosis, conduct annual physicals, well‑woman exams (pap smear, pelvic exam, breast exam), and counseling.

Conduct thorough assessments, diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions, provide evidence‑based treatment with patient education, prevention, and wellness focus.

Appropriate referrals, evaluate immunizations, administer vaccines per protocol, log administered vaccines into Florida Shots, Health Management System (HMS) and Care Ware, enter medication refill requests into HMS‑Emdeon, accurately document services.

Review lab results, follow up on abnormal or priority values (viral loads, CD4), assess client well‑being including medication adherence, missed appointments, housing, transportation, and implement clinical recommendations.

Care coordination for newly diagnosed HIV patients, serve as liaison with case management teams, specialty care providers, partners, and state Telehealth providers.

Review and authorize prescription requests from providers and clients, provide education to clients, partners, team members, and community.

Assist Program Manager with pharmacy coordination, pilot studies, surveys, focus groups, reports, and maintain 100 % compliance with confidentiality protocols and database security (Florida Department of Health HIV/AIDS Section Bureau of Communicable Diseases, Medicaid FLMMIS, HMS, Availity, Change Revenue Optum, STARS, Florida Shots).

Enter all client encounters (face‑to‑face, telehealth, phone) into HMS and Provide Enterprise System; submit required reports, maintain records, complete paperwork accurately; prompt timesheet, mileage, EARS submission; answer telephone calls; provide clerical support; interact positively with nurses and clinic staff.

Participate in training and webinars on HIV treatment adherence, education, and care management; remain current with HRSA policies and procedures.

Assist with chart reviews and QA/QI activities, contribute to Quality Advisory Committee, maintain relationships with partners.

Participate in case discussions or conferences to improve assessment and retention; attend team meetings, ADAP Program, DOH‑Seminole, and community partner meetings; produce minutes within two days.

Conduct outreach activities, participate in health fairs, community events, collaborate with providers.

Required to work before, during, and beyond normal hours or days in emergencies (e.g., special needs or Red Cross shelters, disaster response). Maintain confidentiality and security of records per regulations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish), knowledge of HIV/AIDS and STD terminology, data collection and analysis, customer service, report preparation, understanding of Ryan White, ADAB State, and local specialty care programs, legislative policy direction, public interaction skills, independent work, planning, organizing, coordinating assignments, effective communication, problem‑solving, PC proficiency.

Qualifications

  • Licensure/registration/certification: Florida APRN license (maintain active license). Florida Statutes Section , Chapter 64E‑18, Florida Administrative Code.
  • Willingness to work before, during, and beyond normal work hours in emergencies. Daily in‑office or field work required.
  • All Florida Department of Health positions require the incumbent to be able to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English. Applicants who do not meet this requirement will not be considered.
