Operating Room Support Tech – Full‑time, Days, TMC
Job Summary
The position is responsible for preparing patients and the environment prior to surgery for the medical and nursing team. The role also coordinates and maintains a variety of non‑clinical and ancillary services of the assigned department in support of patient care services to maintain overall unit efficiency and quality.
Shift
Monday – Friday, 6:30 am – 3:00 pm (No weekends or holidays)
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Licenses/Certifications: Basic Life Support/CPR required; CST preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years in a health care setting; Operating Room experience preferred
- Ability to perform duties requiring standing, walking, stooping, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work with minimal supervision; demonstrated initiative
- Strong organizational ability and clear verbal communication in face‑to‑face encounters and via telephone; ability to assimilate information verbally and in writing to compose written correspondence
Strong command of English, working knowledge of medical terminology, and strong customer service skills - Basic mathematical calculations; competency in assigned specialty area; working knowledge of basic medical terminology and computer software
Principal Accountabilities
- Assist with the physical preparation of patients and the environment according to patient needs
- Ensure required medical supplies, information, and products are delivered on time; transfer patients as necessary
- Accept deliverables of merchandise; update computerized inventory control system and maintain master filing system
- Maintain inventory, select supplies per scheduled surgery
- Monitor and distribute inventory requirements, ensuring automated records are accurate
- Collaborate with Materials Management to keep supplies adequate and available to other departments as needed
- Count and document differences between received items and shipping bill; report damaged materials
- Attach receiving documents to merchandise and deliver to appropriate department
- Identify and resolve unit operational problems independently, collaborating with manager/coordinator
- Coordinate and maintain a variety of non‑clinical and ancillary services, including environmental services, maintenance, central supplies, and other support functions
- Ensure storage areas and bulk closets are clean and compliant with applicable policies and procedures
- Accurately sterilize instruments and supplies under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Surgical Technologist
- Retrieve malfunctioning equipment and ensure repairs are completed as needed
- Ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors; adhere to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity, and quality of service
- Promote professional growth by meeting mandatory and continuing education requirements; support department goals and mentor less experienced staff
- Demonstrate commitment to caring for all community members by providing compassionate, personalized experiences and modeling Memorial Hermann’s service standards
