Talascend is currently seeking an Operating Engineer for a contract to hire opportunity with our client in Greensboro, North Carolina .
Overview
This role involves overseeing the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex building systems in high-end hospitality and educational facilities. The position requires broad maintenance experience across various systems, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, fire safety, and more.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs to mechanical, plumbing, structural, fire, life safety, and control systems to keep facility and building systems up to standards
- Maintain responsibility for facility services, preventative maintenance, purchasing and inventory control, contracted maintenance, general maintenance, and technical proficiency
- Clean, inspect, calibrate, and change parts on HVAC systems and associated equipment to maintain optimum performance levels
- Record readings and make adjustments to ensure proper operation of equipment across all building systems
- Monitor the quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors, ensuring standards are met
- Perform periodic checks of tool and instrument inventory to maintain readiness for maintenance activities
- Comply with departmental policy for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials while maintaining a clean and safe workplace
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 2-4 years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial building systems
- Ability to analyze the operation of various commercial or industrial mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, determine the cause of problems, and take corrective action
- Working knowledge of computer applications including Word and Excel
- Physical ability to bend, sit, kneel, squat, stand, reach, and lay as required to access equipment components for extended periods
- Ability to work exposed to heat, sunlight, rain, cold, and during daylight and night-time hours as needed
- EPA 608 Universal Certification
- Two years of trades schooling in electrical system design, refrigeration, and HVAC
The shift for this position is Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM with potential for on-call.
