Position Summary:
The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a pediatric intensivist to join our team of 16 faculty, 6 fellows, and 6 Advanced Practice Providers. This recruitment is open rank and open track (i.e. fixed term, tenure/tenure track, and/or variable track); academic faculty rank and salary will be commensurate with training, experience, and academic accomplishments.
The successful applicant will participate in the Division’s academic mission in research, education, and quality improvement.
We are particularly interested in applicants who demonstrate:
- Strong track record in scholarship and research, including peer-reviewed publications and/or extramural funding (or clear trajectory toward independence as a clinical investigator)
- Pediatric cardiac critical care training and experience
- Commitment to educating learners (fellows, residents, students)
The North Carolina Children’s Hospital is part of a busy quaternary care medical center. Our combined 33 ICU beds (20 PICU + 13 PCICU) support a broad and complex case mix and admit over 1,200 patients per year. The ICU programs support excellent programs pediatric ECMO, burn, trauma, solid organ transplantation, bone marrow transplantation and pediatric cardiothoracic surgery. The Critical Care Medicine division maintains a fully accredited pediatric critical care medicine fellowship program.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
MD/DO; Board certification in Pediatrics and BC/BE in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:
Previous experience either working as a faculty member in an academic environment or post-fellowship training in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care experience as well as Pediatric Critical Care experience is highly desirable as, at times, physicians will be expected to cover both units. This Pediatric Intensivist will be committed to patient care, research, and education. A demonstrated commitment to quality improvement would match well with current divisional activities.
