The Universityof New Mexico (UNM) Department of Emergency Medicine seeks full-timephysician faculty members to join our growing academic emergency medicineteam. Faculty members will provide high-quality clinical care across ouracademic and community hospital settings while supporting the Department'snationally recognized education, research, and community engagement missions.Opportunities for academic involvement will be aligned with each candidate'sinterests, experience, and expertise.

The Departmentof Emergency Medicine has 88 full-time and part-time attending physicians. Weprovide classroom and clinical education for the EMS Academy, as well asmedical, pharmacy, and PA students. Our physician training programs haveexcellent national reputations and include our EM residency and fellowships inPediatric EM, EMS, Ultrasound, Wilderness, Sports Medicine, and MedicalEducation. We have identified the need in academic areas of expertise in PEM,EMS, Informatics, Simulation, Ultrasound, Medical Toxicology, Quality, andOperations.

UNM Hospital isNew Mexico's only Level I Trauma Center, the only Children’s Hospital, and thestate's first Comprehensive Stroke Center. UNM Health System providersspecialize in over 150 areas and receive 900,000 outpatient visits, 22,000surgical cases, and approximately 100,000 emergency room visits each year. The School ofMedicine (SOM), created in 1964, is celebrated for its research discoveries andinnovations in medical education and has earned a reputation for prioritizingdiversity in the physician and health professions workforce. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Have a MD or DOdegree.
  • Board certifiedor board eligible in Emergency Medicine
  • 3 to 5 years ofdirectly related experience, which may include time spent in residency andfellowship.
  • State of NewMexico Medical license or equivalent and Federal DEA Certification at time ofhire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clinical skillsrelevant to Emergency Medicine
  • Communicateeffectively with physicians, patients, and other health professionals as wellas with multi-lingual populations.
  • Commitment andactivities related to community engagement.
  • Interest orexperiences in scholarly, educational, or administrative work to includecoaching and mentoring.
  • Personal and professional alignment with the values of the Department and the UNM School of Medicine.
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
