OPEN POSITION: Executive Director, SMILES Center for Independent Living (Southern Minnesota)

SMILES is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven Executive Director to lead a respected nonprofit empowering individuals with disabilities to live independently and fully participate in their communities.

Serving Southern Minnesota since 1988, SMILES is a consumer-controlled organization, with leadership guided by individuals with disabilities and the Independent Living Philosophy.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations across multiple locations
• Develop and manage budgets and financial reporting
• Secure funding through grants, partnerships, and fundraising
• Oversee programs and ensure high-quality services
• Partner with the Board of Directors on strategy and governance
• Serve as a community leader and advocate for disability rights

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• 3+ years of leadership/management experience
• Experience with budgeting, supervision, and fundraising
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Passion for disability advocacy and independent living

Lived experience with disability is strongly encouraged.
