Hartford Healthcare seeks an Oncology Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant to provide advanced care for oncology patients within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you’ll conduct assessments, manage treatment plans, prescribe therapies, and coordinate multidisciplinary care across our Connecticut network. You’ll collaborate closely with oncologists, nurses, and support staff to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care. Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive oncology-focused history and physical examinations
  • Develop, implement, and adjust evidence-based oncology treatment plans
  • Prescribe medications, chemotherapy-supportive agents, and order diagnostic tests
  • Monitor treatment response and manage treatment-related symptoms and toxicities
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary care with physicians, nurses, pharmacy, and support services
  • Educate patients and families about diagnosis, treatment options, and side-effect management
  • Document care thoroughly in the electronic health record (EHR) and ensure continuity of care
  • Participate in tumor boards, quality improvement, and clinical research initiatives
  • Adhere to institutional protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Precept or mentor staff and contribute to professional development activities
  • Oncology patient assessment
  • Chemotherapy and immunotherapy management
  • Symptom and toxicity management
  • Advanced diagnostic interpretation (labs, imaging)
  • Prescriptive authority and pharmacology in oncology
  • Central line and port management
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) documentation
  • Oncology emergency recognition and management
  • Care coordination and discharge planning
  • Patient and family education in oncology
  • Evidence-based practice and clinical guidelines (NCCN, ASCO)

Qualifications

  • Current RN license and APRN or PA license (state-appropriate)
  • National board certification as NP or PA (e.g., AANP/ANCC/NCCPA)
  • Oncology nursing or advanced practice oncology certification preferred (e.g., AOCNP)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Oncology/acute care clinical experience
